What are API keys?
API keys let VersaTrader communicate with your exchange account to read balances and place orders. They do not give access to your email, password, or withdrawal functions.
Required permissions
| Permission | Required? | Why |

| Trade (spot) | Yes | Place and cancel orders |
| Withdrawal | No | Never grant this |
How to add an API key
- Open Settings (avatar menu, top-right)
- Click Exchanges in the sidebar
- Click Add Exchange
- Select your exchange and paste your API key and secret
- Click Verify — VersaTrader will test the connection
If you see a balance, you’re connected. If you see an error, check that the key has the correct permissions and that IP whitelisting (if enabled) allows VersaTrader’s server IP.
Security tips
- Never grant withdrawal permissions to any third-party service
- Use IP whitelisting where your exchange supports it
- Rotate your API keys periodically
